College Cake Competition – Student Report by Ben G
Baxterstorey came in during our careers week and set us a challenge to use their recipe to make the best cake. We made some cakes for the competition and they came in to judge it based on appearance and taste. We worked in teams to make our cakes during our cooking lessons to compete for a prize.
The first prize went to the Victoria sponge cupcakes with melted chocolate and strawberries on the top. The second place went to the chocolate treat and finger cake. Finally the third place went to the cookie monster cupcakes. All the learners had great fun making the cakes and really enjoyed eating them after they were judged.
Well done everyone.

Team Horizons take on the Dragon Boat Race at Coate Water
Horizons College staff took part in the Dragon Boat Race at Coate Water Country Park in Swindon on Sunday as a team building exercise.
The idea came about after a staff focus group was set up by the 2 staff governors and the question was asked for team building ideas.
This was an excellent day and although we didn’t win I think we were all surprised at how well we did……..a lot of us imagined just going round in circles!
